On a night full of feelings of loyalty and gratitude to a man who contributed to the formation of the conscience of viewers and the makers of the seventh art alike launched Cairo International Film Festival new dhow, Wednesday, named after the late critic Youssef Sharif RizkGod.

He was the artistic director of the Cairo Film Festival for many years until his death. 

The festival was named After Yusuf Sharif RizkGod has his most recent award, the Audience Award, which is worth $20,000 and is awarded to the film with the highest audience away from the jury. Screenwriter and producer Mohamed Hafi, who chairs the festival for the second year in a row, said: "Had it not been for the nomination of Mr. Yusuf Sharif RizkGod is my name for the Minister of Culture because I am not among you today, and I am proud that we dedicate this session to his soul and his name."

The opening of the festival was attended by many Arab and foreign artists and directors who sat on the red carpet in elegant and distinctive clothes before entering the ceremony held at the Grand Theatre of the Egyptian Opera House.

The ceremony was co-hosted by actors Khaled al-Sawi, Ahmed Daoud and Dina Al-Sharbini, who survived to break the routine of the festivals and adding a lot of vitality and joy to the night, and rising actress Asma Abu Al-Yazid also presented a short review. 

The festival honored Egyptian actress Mona Shalabi with the Faten Hamama Award for Excellence, while Egyptian director Sherif Arafa and British director Terry Gilliam received the Faten Hamama Award."I am proud to belong to the film industry or to be a very small part of the industry that teaches us the feeling, love, laughter and beautiful feelings," said Mona Shalabi, 37, after receiving the award."

Over the next 9 days, the 41st edition of the festival will feature more than 150 films from 63 countries in 8 venues within the opera, in central Cairo and Zamalek districts, and Mexican cinema will be the guest of honor. The festival's films are divided into a number of competitions and programs, the most important of which is the official competition, which includes 15 films, and Egypt competes in this competition with the documentary film "Akeli" directed and produced by Marianne Khoury.
